KFC egg tarts [in Thailand]

Love at first BITE! I really love the egg tarts from KFC. It's a little bit sweeter than the egg tarts from the ones that I tried before back in New York City's dim sum restaurants / Chinese bakeries. The egg tart crust isn't dry either. These egg tarts costs 19 Baht each (63 cents USD). I think the price is reasonable. I forgot how much egg tarts costs back in America; probably less than $1 USD each. Sadly, these egg tarts are only available in Thailand and maybe neighboring Asian countries as well. Gotta try these at least once! :)

The 1st time that I ever tried ROYCE' Nama Chocolates (Au Lait flavor) was from my grad. school friend. The chocolate is smooth, soft, and melts in your mouth. It's so GOOD! You would use the tiny spatula that was provided to pick up the cubed chocolates to eat. These chocolates also kinda reminds me of a chocolate truffle that I ate a very long time ago and I don't recall the brand. So, back in July our neighbors brought us a box from their trip to Japan and I was so happy that they brought these for us. During my recent trip to Japan, I also brought two boxes of these at Narita Airport during my flight back to Bangkok and it costs 693 Yen a box (About $8.89 USD). I wanted to buy more, but I was afraid that the chocolate would melt and I want to buy other Japanese goodies at the airport.

I would highly recommend for everyone to try ROYCE' Nama Chocolates when you visit Japan. There are other flavors too and I have tried the Au Lait flavor thus far. ROYCE' offers many other products so just browse around their website. There are outlets in Thailand that sells ROYCE' but there aren't any outlets in the USA.

Ovaltine Nature Select Soy

This isn't your typical Ovaltine drink. Many of you may have seen the coco malt flavor Ovaltine at your grocery store, but not Ovaltine in soybean powder form. For the past few months I have seen the Thai advertisements on TV for Ovaltine Nature Select Soy. I was a bit iffy about buying the product at first because I was scared that the soy drink would taste terrible. But, I got to sample the soy drink at BigC a couple of weeks ago and I have been hooked on the drink ever since.

There are about 15 single pouches in the Ovaltine Nature Select Soy pack. It costs about 90-100 Baht (around $3 US). All you have to do is pour in hot water into a mug with the soybean powder. This drink tastes like real soy milk and it doesn't taste very sweet too. Highly recommended!

Jele Super Light [Orange Flavor]

You can get this drink in the supermarket (i.e. BigC) in Thailand. It comes in a 6-pack for about 17 Baht (60 cents US). I never saw this drink in the US before either.

Well, this drink is a combination of Jello and juice. I noticed that there is a difference between Jele Super Light and Jele Light. There's tiny coconut/lychee chunks in the Jele Super Light. I have only tried the Orange flavor for both Jele drinks. It's a yummy and refreshing drink on a hot day. :)

My little cousin recommend us (my uncle, her little brother and his friend, and I) to go try ramen at CHABUTON. She said that she came here before with her friends and said that the food is really good. She also said the owner was the winner from a Japanese series called "TV Champion." So, we came here for lunch on this past Saturday and the place was pretty busy. We waited for 10 minutes to be seated. The place was average size too. I ordered the "Shio Tonkosu Ramen" in a small size for 130 Baht [about $4 US]. This ramen was oh so good! The broth is very flavorful. The ramen contains scallions, pickled bamboo shoots, pork, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. My uncle order some fried gyozas (dumplings) for us.  The gyozas came out piping HOT and they were also delicious. These gyozas had a pork & leek filing and they reminded of the dumplings that I can get from Flushing, NYC. For drinks, we all got the iced cold Japanese green tea and it's UNLIMITED REFILLS!!! I think that I drank a lot green tea here because I was so dehydrated prior to coming to the restaurant.

Overall, this places deserves 5 stars in my book. The food was very mouthwatering and delicious. The service was good as well. This place is a MUST TRY!

25 Baht meals for lunch!

Guay Jub and Pork Balls Noodle Soup [from a food stall at TOPS' supermarket food court @ Fashion Island Mall]

My parents and I go to Fashion Island Mall a lot [almost every week] for the past few months. It's a gigantic mall with many shops, restaurants, a movie theater, a bowling alley, and even karaoke!!! So, when my parents and I went grocery shopping at TOPS' we noticed a food stall that sold food for 25 Baht! Before we usually eat lunch at the food court on the 3rd floor near the movie theater, where some meals cost 30-40 Baht [about $1 to $1.25 US]. We decided to try the guay jub and the pork ball noodle soup for 25 Baht each [about .70 cents US] which is a PRETTY GOOD DEAL. For those who are unfamiliar with "Guay Jub" it's a broad square noodle in a pork soup. I requested to only have crispy pork, fried tofu, egg, and vegetables in my soup. If you wanted all the fixings, there would also be liver and pig blood. If you ordered the "Guay Jub" to go, it would cost you 30 Baht [about $1 US]. The pork ball noodle soup is your standard typical noodle dish. Both of these dishes were very good and it's also probably loaded with MSG. Anyway, I have tried these noodle dishes quiet a few times already but I haven't had a chance to write about it until now [partly because I didn't have time. :P] I wouldn't be full from eating one bowl of guay jub or one bowl of pork ball noodle soup though. I would have to buy dessert afterwards or eat two bowls of either noodle soup just to be full.

Khao Soi

This would my second taste of Khao Soi from the same food stall at Fashion Mall. I had a huge craving of Khao Soi and I really wanted to eat it. Today, I ordered the pork balls Khao Soi for 40 Baht [about $1.25 US]. Oh boy, it was delicious and tasted just as great as the chicken Khao Soi that I tried a few days ago too! At first I was a bit worried that this dish would be very spicy because I ordered take out Khao Soi from a food stall at Jatujak Minburi before and it was so spicy that I had drink water every few minutes. So, I asked the server if the Khao Soi here was spicy and she said no. I decided to give it a try.

This Khao Soi contains egg noodles, crispy egg noodles, shallots, pickled cabbage, curry, and [obviously] pork balls. The dish was filling but not filling enough to make me full. I was able to eat some coconut ice cream afterwards. :)

Coconut Ice Cream

Coconut Ice Cream [from a food stand @ Fashion Island Mall]

I justed wanted to show this very creative presentation of the coconut ice cream that I brought from a food stand at Fashion Island Mall today. The coconut ice cream was served in a young coconut carved out into a bowl and this ice cream was absolutely delicious!!! I can taste pure coconut flavor in this ice cream. Some coconut slices came with the ice cream as well. This only costs 30 baht [about $1 US].

The sad part is that this food stand doesn't open everyday. I think it's open on certain days or during big events at the mall. :(
